Organics

The inspiration for my latest piece came from: 1. The mood set by 16th century grotesques, 2. an example of tortoise shell overlay on gold leaf, the result of which was a sort of metallicized tortoise, and 3. the idea of metallicized tortoise confronting a distressed, raw texture, almost leather-like in appearance.

Disparate materials, organic by nature.

The metallic tortoise is a deep, muted faux-tortoise accented with gold. The large, textured drawers are covered in canvas that I treated, distressed, painted and mounted and accented with brass nailheads.
